Types of Residence in Turkey

There are many types of residencies in Turkey, and they are linked to many reasons that determine their types, duration, method of obtaining them, who deserves them, how to apply for them, their conditions, reason for obtaining them, justification for renewal, and many reasons.. 

We will mention some of them in this article: 

Short-term residency: 

It is a type of Turkish residency that allows foreign citizens in their country to stay for a period starting from three months to twenty-four months, with the reason for the residence and explaining it when applying for residency. This information must certainly be mentioned in the application, otherwise the application will be considered void. 

How to obtain it and the required documents: 

The Turkish authorities stated in Article 31 of its Turkish law for foreigners that foreigners in their country are granted a short-term residency permit for these reasons: 

1-For the purpose of tourism. 

2-For the purpose of treatment for those who have a non-contagious disease. 

3-For the purpose of trade and its relations. 

4-For those who have immovable assets in Türkiye. 

5-For the purpose of scientific research or learning the Turkish language or educational courses from public institutions in Turkey. 

6-For the purpose of vocational training in Turkey, residency is granted according to the training, its nature and duration. 

What are the conditions for obtaining a short-term residency? 

The Turkish authorities stated in Article 32 of their Turkish law for foreigners to grant a short-term residency permit under the following conditions: 

- The applicant must have a residence to reside in. 

Obtain a criminal record document from the country of which he holds citizenship or the country in which he was legally residing. 

Provide information and the address of the residence in which he will reside. 

How can we obtain a short-term residency in Turkey? 

The first step is to book an appointment through their official website: 

https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr 

Then fill out the application form for obtaining residency from the same website mentioned above. You must also upload a personal photo and answer all the questions and state the reason for requesting residency. 

After obtaining the appointment, you must go to the specified appointment and adhere to it and go to the Turkish Immigration Department with a printout of the appointment document to submit it with the required papers. 

What are the documents required to obtain a short-term residence permit in Turkey? 

1- Four personal photos 

2- A bank statement with an amount of at least 1300 Turkish liras for each month you will reside in Turkey 

3- Health insurance covering the duration of your stay in Turkey 

4- A copy of a valid passport with the page containing the entry stamp to Turkey 

5- A house rental contract covering the duration of your stay in Turkey certified by a notary public 

6- Pay the residence fee of 59 Turkish liras at the tax office or at one of the government banks 

7- The application form (appointment) that you extracted from the website 

8- HES code 

The response will be given in case of acceptance or rejection within a period ranging between two weeks and a month 

If your submitted application is accepted, a temporary roaming document will be sent until the residence permit is printed to the address provided in the application 

What are the advantages of short-term residence? 

1- When you get a short-term residence: 

2- You can travel and return without a visa 

3- You can open a bank account in all Turkish banks 

4- You can obtain a work permit to work in various Turkish companies 

5- However, if you want to renew the residence, you must apply for renewal 60 days before its expiration, otherwise you will have to submit a new application as you obtained it the first time. 

Residence (student): 

It is also part of the short-term residence. Education in Turkey works to improve knowledge, skills and personal developments to face difficulties and understand the surrounding situations. 

The Turkish government cares about students in general, whether foreign or Turkish, and has put in place a package of incentive laws and procedures to encourage education in all scientific and literary fields in it. 

A student accepted in Turkey can work in the profession of his choice after obtaining a work permit from the government. 

What are the conditions and papers required to apply? 

The applicant must be a student in one of the educational institutions in higher education or secondary and intermediate education provided that 

The study must be completed in Turkey for at least one year 

Rights: 

After obtaining a student residence permit, he is not entitled to grant any of his family a residence permit, whoever he may be 

He has the right to renew the residence as long as he continues his education 

Required documents: 

1-University acceptance letter or student document 

2-Turkish health insurance 

3-Immigration Department appointment document 

4-Four personal photos 

Note: Student residence does not require a bank statement or a rental contract like tourist residence 

Family residence: 

Family residence is granted for two years, renewable for the partner and foreign minor children if the partner has Turkish citizenship or work residence in Turkey. 

If the husband is Turkish, he can nominate his wife for Turkish citizenship after three years of residence. 

How can I obtain family residence in Turkey? 

The conditions and procedures for obtaining a family residence are similar to the procedures for a tourist residence, where when making an appointment, the applicant's information for the husband and children, place of residence, and the amount he receives must be entered. The procedures for obtaining a family residence permit begin by making an appointment from the Turkish Immigration Department website. When attending the interview appointment, all papers are prepared to be submitted to the Immigration Department. 

Required documents: 

1-Appointment document 

2-Residence address document 

3-Health insurance for the husband (children are not required) 

4-A copy of the page bearing the applicant's photo, the entry stamp page, and the passport's expiration date 

5-Four personal photos 

Important notes regarding the family and children: 

Children under the age of 18 must be attended by both the father and mother, and if one of the parties is not present in Turkey, a certified and translated agency must be provided from the Turkish consulate in your country indicating the approval of the party not present in Turkey in order to obtain a residence permit for the children. A document must also be provided proving the place and date of birth of the children, which must be certified and translated by the Turkish embassy in your country as well. 

The residence interview must provide a marriage contract, family booklet, or any document showing the names of family members, and it must be certified and translated
